Experience in the Sierra del Suido

The Suido Route is a guided experience by OitavenLife that invites you to discover the historical paths, landscapes, and legends of the rural environment of the Serra do Suído and the Oitavén valley. Through an interpretative route, participants traverse ancient trails linked to stories of smuggling and popular tradition, while learning about the natural, cultural, and ethnographic heritage of one of the most unique regions in Galicia. During the route, we will enjoy a picnic with typical products from the area.

Reception of participants in Fornelos de Montes 1.- Meet with the guide and introduction to the experience in the heart of the Oitavén valley. Departure in 4x4 vehicles 2.- Start of the journey along authorized mountain tracks, accessing little-known and hard-to-reach places in the Serra do Suído. Interpretation of natural heritage 3.- During the route, we discover forests, waterfalls, lagoons, viewpoints, and landscapes of great ecological value. Knowledge of traditional life in the mountains 4.- We visit characteristic elements such as shepherds' huts and other examples of architecture linked to mountain livestock farming. Stories and legends of the territory 5.- We explain the functioning of the ancient wolf traps and the historical role of the wolf in these mountains. Ascent to Coto dos Ladrons. Picnic. 6.- Stop at one of the highest points in the province of Pontevedra to enjoy panoramic views and learn about the strategic importance of this site. Historical and cultural interpretation 7.- We discover ancient paths used for centuries to connect the provinces of Pontevedra and Ourense, which were part of the Route dos Arrieiros, a crucial commercial route during the Middle Ages. Photographic stops and landscape observation 8.- Time to contemplate the biodiversity, valleys, mountains, and the most spectacular corners of the sierra.
