Flag of La Concha (Trainerak)
Held since 1879, the Flag of La Concha is the most prestigious traditional Basque rowing regatta and one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year in Donostia. The best rowing teams from the Cantabrian Sea compete aboard wooden traineras in the spectacular bay of La Concha, with the beach, the promenade, and Mount Igueldo as a backdrop. Although the stands by the sea are paid, access to the beach and the promenades of La Concha and Ondarreta is free, and it is precisely from there that thousands of locals and visitors watch the regatta each year, creating a festive atmosphere that continues in the local txoznas and gastronomic societies. It takes place over two days, on the first two Sundays of September, and is an unbeatable way to experience a vibrant maritime tradition in Basque society.
